Welcome to Bidisa

Bidisa is a Sanskrit word symbolic of causing culture.It speaks about the task before the innovator to bring social transformed in an underdeveloped tribe, specially Lodhas of Medinipur. Late Prof. Prabodh Kumar Bhowmick a leading figure in anthropology, particularly in action anthropology in India believed that doing something for the uplift of the unprivileged appreciably better than knowing about the same. He decided to dedicate to his service for causing social uplift, economic amelioration and educational progress in the tribal people practically Lodhas in that area. Since 1955 Prof Bhowmick carried out his activities for The socio-economic development of primitive tribe, the Lodhas and also other tribal communities in general and founded the Ashram-cum-Research Institute ' Bidisa',where traditional knowledge culminates with the social research of modern times.

Prof. Bhowmick established two Sister organisations namely ' Samaj Sevak Sangha and The institute of Social Research and Applied Anthropology (ISRAA), registered non-government organizations (NGO) to full-fil his aim and objectives. Samaj Sevak Sangha (Unit-1) takes the charge of economic development whereas ISRAA (Unit II) conducts all academic research programs about the tribes. After the last breath of Prof. Bhowmick, the founder and architect of Bidisa at 2003 his son Dr. Pradip K.. Bhowmick , former associate Professor, Rural Development centre IIT with some dissciples of Lt. Prof Bhowmick fills up the gap with his immense ability. Dr. Bhowmick not only successfully carrys on the ongoing programmes but also establish another unit Manaskanya (unit III), an immersive Argo rural tourism. Prof Bhowmick believed that “Bidisa ' is his Manaskanya! His all the programmes to be carried over in lap of unspoiled nature environs so that one can continue the activities in a relax mind, body and soul. Manaskanya is enriched with tribal art and crafts · One can experience the tribal culture in mother earth.
